Our Work

CANNRA’s work is largely focused on supporting member jurisdictions through:

  • Policy tracking efforts to facilitate members understanding of policy approaches being implemented in other states and territories

  • Identification of emerging and best practices through topic-based committees that meet regularly and develop reports and other resources

  • Education about key regulatory topics and on the ground regulatory challenges through factsheets and topic summaries

  • Exploration of emerging and complex policy and regulatory topics as part of a monthly member-only webinar series

  • In-person convening of CANNRA members and national and international stakeholders to facilitate an exchange of ideas and information

  • Knowledge of current state cannabis regulations across other jurisdictions is essential for a cannabis regulator. In partnership with our member states, CANNRA conducts state cannabis policy tracking twice annually across more than 100 cannabis regulatory variables. The policy tracker is available to members.   • CANNRA has more than a dozen special committees, co-chaired by staff from states who are directly engaged in their jurisdiction doing work related that committee topic. Committees include: Licensing, Compliance & Enforcement, Packaging & Labeling, Social and Economic Equity, Medical Cannabis, Cannabinoid Hemp, Public Heath and Data, Lab Testing and Product Safety, Energy & Environment, Public Education and Communications, Federal Policy Engagement, Traffic Safety, and Finance & Banking. Committees work in a coordinated manner to discuss cross cutting issues, identify areas of best practice, and facilitate discussion about challenges.   • CANNRA Committees work on identifying best practices across a host of cannabis regulatory areas. As part of that work, CANNRA has a number of reports and factsheets for members. To read more about white papers and factsheets, see here.

  • CANNRA holds member-only monthly webinars and workshops on a range of topics related to cannabis, marijuana, and hemp - from science and research topics, to legal topics, to regulatory topics.

  • CANNRA holds two in person meetings each year:

    • An annual member-only meeting that takes place in the winter, and allows state and territorial agencies to come together in a member-only environment to discuss topical issues related to cannabis regulation.

    • An external stakeholder meeting that takes place in the summer and convenes a wide array of CANNRA stakeholders including: federal agencies, other nongovernmental organizations, researchers, public health and safety groups, advocacy and social justice groups, data and technology groups, and national industry trade associations and coalitions.
